PTA Board Positions
President
Serve as a liaison between parents, school officials, and the RISD council of PTAs. Lead all PTA meetings and attend all RISD council meetings. Oversee all PTA business and represent the PTA in the community.
1st VP Teacher Appreciation
Provide administrative support to the President. Serve as a back-up to the President for board and membership meetings. Serve as an administrator on the PTA Facebook website. Lead teacher appreciation efforts and coordinate teacher appreciation events, such as the monthly coffee cart and luncheons. Maintain the teacher “favorite things” list and promote teacher appreciation week in May.
Treasurer
Maintain the PTA’s budget and financial records. Deposit funds into the PTA bank account. Write checks for vendors and reimbursements. Track expenses and revenue. Provide financial reports to the board and membership.
Secretary
Create minutes for board and membership meetings. Maintain historical records and oversee records retention. Send thank you notes and other correspondence.
Time commitment is 2-3 hours/month, and can be done from home.
2nd VP – Membership
Lead membership efforts for the PTA! Find creative ways to encourage our NRE community to join PTA. Communicate the PTA’s mission and the value of PTA membership. Maintain membership rosters. Update online membership database.
Time commitment is 2-3 hours/month, and can be done from home.
Ways and Means
Lead fundraising efforts for the PTA. Communicate how funds support PTA events/programs. Develop ideas for fundraisers and coordinate PTA members to carry out fundraising events/drives.
Time commitment is about 2-3 hours/month, and can be done from home!
Programs
Coordinate annual PTA events, such as the boo hoo breakfast, pastries with parents, night on the lawn, and the end-of-the-year dance. Coordinate the serving of refreshments at school choir events.
Time commitment is 2-3 hours/month depending on the number of events occurring.
Room Representative
Coordinate three annual room parties (winter party, Valentine’s day party, and end of the year party). Advertise need for room parents for each class and provide “parties in a box” with basic food/drinks/supplies for each class party.
Time commitment is about 1-2 hours/month.
Communications
Design and arrange for printing of flyers for PTA announcements. Coordinate with Spanish representatives to ensure Spanish translation of all PTA flyers. Design graphics and announcements to post on the PTA website, share on social media, and create for print. 2 People are needed for this position - 1 social media/print, and 1 for website.
Time commitment is 2-3 hours/month, and can be done from home!
Volunteer Coordinator
Recruit and assign volunteers for PTA events and to support school and teacher needs. Communicate the school district’s volunteer background check process. Gather and report volunteer hours to the RISD Council of PTAs. Identify and recognize the volunteer of the month.
Time commitment is 2-3 hours/month, and can be done from home!
Cub Club
Be a bridge builder between our Northrich Neighborhood Community and our school! Foster a sense of excitement about joining the Northrich community. Create events for rising neighborhood kindergartners (current 3- and 4-year-olds). Coordinate school tours, back-to-school socials, and maintain the Cub Club Facebook page.
Time commitment is 1-2 hours/month.
Arts in Education (Reflections)
Publicize, promote, and ensure submission of entries in the annual PTA Reflections art program. Recognize all participants and celebrate those students whose work is selected to move forward to the state or national level. In the Spring, work with our Art teacher, Ms. Millar, to organize the NRE Student Art Show.
Time commitment is 1-2 hours in the Fall and 1-2 hours in the Spring.
Spanish Representatives
Help communicate all PTA announcements and events to our Spanish speaking families. Provide translation of PTA flyers and provide translation at PTA meetings and events. Advocate for Spanish speaking families, by communicating their needs and questions to the PTA and school representatives.
Time commitment is 1-2 hours/month. Everything can be done from home!
Multicultural Night
Coordinate the annual multicultural night PTA event. Recruit Northrich families to host a table with a poster and food that represents their culture/home country. Coordinate with outside groups (e.g., UTD student organizations and dance/performance groups) to provide entertainment.
Time commitment is 3-4 hours in December and January.
Coffee Cart
Help to coordinate each month's Coffee Cart for NRE Staff, recruit volunteers, and help stock the cart. 1-2 hours/month.
Yearbook
Did you know that our NRE Yearbook is completely a work of PTA? As a yearbook volunteer, you will work with a team to snap photos, arrange the content, create and publish the school's yearbook! 1-2 hours/month.
Spirit Store
Twice a year, our PTA volunteers work with a vendor to design spirit gear and create an online store for families to purchase NRE gear. Spirit Store Chair coordinate with printing companies to finalize spirit wear designs, and ensure the store runs smoothly. Volunteers are also needed to help sort and distribute orders once they are delivered. 1-2 hours/month.
Aides
Work with one of the positions previously listed to assist with their duties.
Other positions available:
6th Grade Parent Chair - PTA liaison for all things 6th grade to ensure that the PTA is aware of and able to provide support to any 6th grade events and activities
Bear Fest Committee - Aid the Programs Chair in planning for our biggest event of the year, Bear Fest.
Community Partnerships Chair - Solicit monetary and service-related donations as needed, and develop ongoing partnerships that are mutually beneficial to Northrich Elementary School (including homeowners associations, individuals or businesses within the community, etc.)
Bulletin Board and Marquee Chair - Maintain the PTA bulletin board in the front lobby and update the school Marquee with important announcements.
Council Delegates - Serve as liaisons between the Richardson ISD Council of PTAs and Northrich Elementary School, and attend RISD Council of PTAs Delegate meetings.
School Supplies Coordinator - Works with school supply company to coordinate the sale of and distributes school supplies to NRE Families
